Eduard Bornhöhe is an outstanding representative of Estonian literature at the end of the 19th century. In the historical story “The Avenger,” Bornhöe, for the first time in Estonian literature, depicts a popular uprising against the oppressors. In the image of the Avenger (Tasuja), the best qualities of the people's leader were embodied - courage, love for the suffering Motherland, wisdom, nobility, dedication to one's work.
